MEDC Member Scholarships:
Continued professional training is essential for successful community and economic development in Mississippi. Tuition assistance scholarships are made to members who apply during October and November each year for courses in the next calendar year. This fund is made possible by ELECTRIC POWER ASSOCIATIONS OF MISSISSIPPI, ENTERGY MISSISSIPPI, MISSISSIPPI POWER COMPANY, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY, MISSISSIPPI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY and MEDC.
Courses approved for tuition assistance in 2013 are:
True South Basic Economic Development Course at USM
Institute of Organization Management (Chamber Institute)
Community Development Institute
Economic Development Institute
National Development Council Economic Development Courses
Applications must be received in the MEDC office no later than 5:00 PM, Wednesday, October 31, 2012.

Jimmy & Ray Heidel Economic Development Leadership Award:
The Ray Heidel Leadership Award was established in 1995 by the Mississippi Economic Development Council. In 2000, Jimmy Heidel's name was added to the award and it was renamed the Jimmy & Ray Heidel Economic Development Leadership Award.
The purpose of the Award is to foster further development of promising economic development practitioner leadership skills. The Award consists of a plaque and tuition for the first year of either the Economic Development Institute or the Community Development Institute which is decided by the recipient. The Award is presented annually to a recipient who meets the selected criteria:
- Member of the Mississippi Economic Development Council, Inc.;
- Employed as a business development worker within Mississippi;
- Participant in the New South Economic Development Course at the University of Southern Mississippi; and
- Exhibits fully developed leadership skills or potential for leadership skills.
The recipient is selected during the week of the New South Economic Development Course by a committee of three determined by the course director. The Award is presented at the MEDC Winter Conference each year and is sponsored by MEDC and in cooperation with various friends of economic development in Mississippi.

Joe Johnson Memorial Endowment in Economic Development:
The Joe Johnson Memorial Endowment in Economic Development was established in 2003 by the Mississippi Economic Development Council and the University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association.
The purpose of the Endowment, which is held by the USM Foundation, is to provide financial assistance through a scholarship for a master's-level student in economic development enrolled at the University of Southern Mississippi. Representatives from MEDC will select the recipient of the award each year.
